The RISE of DEMIDOV

Ivan Demidov who was the Montreal Canadiens’ 2024 NHL 1st round pick this past June, made his KHL debut for SKA Saint Petersburg on September 5, 2024.

Lots of talk has been built around Demidov following up one year behind phenom Michkov who starts his 1st NHL season this year with the Philadelphia Flyers. Many Habs fans are ranting and raving as it is expected he should be able to play out this year in the KHL and arrive in Montreal to begin his NHL career for the 2025/2026 season. While only one game in I am going to break down some notes on his early opening season game.

Demidov had a notable debut, recording an assist within the first seven minutes of the game. He played alongside Kuznetsov, indicating he’s being given significant ice time with skilled teammates. Throughout the game, he was involved in both of his team’s goals, showcasing his impact on the ice. He finished the game with one assist, 14 minutes of ice time, three shots on goal, and created several scoring chances, especially in the first period.

As far as his Ice Time and Impact on the game; While his ice time was somewhat limited in the second period, he managed to make his presence felt in the third, continuing to create opportunities. His ability to contribute early in his KHL career suggests a smooth transition to the professional level, at least in terms of making an immediate impact.

As a Fan and Analyst you have to admit, there’s excitement among Canadiens fans and hockey analysts about Demidov’s debut. His performance, particularly his assist and involvement in key plays, has been highlighted across social platforms, with many expressing optimism about his development and future contributions to the Canadiens.

Future Prospects writes: “Given his performance and the context provided by his placement in the lineup, Demidov’s debut reinforces the expectations set upon him as a high draft pick. His plan to spend this season in the KHL before potentially joining Montreal next year remains on track, with his debut serving as a promising start to that journey.”

This debut not only marks a significant milestone in Demidov’s career but also keeps the anticipation high among Canadiens fans for what he might bring to the NHL in the near future. For those who do not know Demidov well here is a little more info to look at.
