Pawel ‘the Cat’ Weekly Hockey Update – November 12, 2025

Hey everyone, hope you are doing well. Tonight, we are back at it for another great Episode 10 Season 7 of Two Guys & Hockey Talk, where we dive into the stories around the world of hockey. It’s been a busy few days as the NHL season is well underway and we have some stories from the past week

  1. Auston Matthews Injured – It was announced that after the game last night between the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Boston Bruins that Auston Matthews suffered after a hard hit by Zadorov. It looks like the team will be without him as they have had a rollercoaster start to the season. It also sounds like their #1 Goaltender Anthony Stolarz will also be out after sustaining an upper-body injury in the 1st period. The team is currently 8-8-1 so far this season.
  1. Kampf Contract Termination – In other Maple Leaf news,  Czech forward David Kämpf, once a reliable defensive center for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was placed on waivers and assigned to the AHL’s Marlies early in the 2025–26 season. After refusing to report, Toronto suspended him without pay, leading to a dispute over his contract and signing bonus. The NHL and NHLPA are now involved as the Leafs prepare to terminate his deal. What began as a depth-line demotion has escalated into a standoff over salary and respect, leaving Kämpf’s NHL future uncertain and possibly pushing him toward a fresh start with another team or back in Europe.
  1. Charles‑Alexis Legault Out – It also sounds like Charles‑Alexis Legault of the Carolina Hurricanes will be out 3-4 months after receiving hand surgery. This is just a long list of injuries piling up affecting team strategies and a loss for the team, as he played 8 games this season putting up 1 goal and 1 assist. We wish him all the best in his recovery.
  1. Pinto Locked Up – The Ottawa Senators have locked up Shane Pinto to a 4-year, $30-million contract extension (with an AAV of $7.5 million per season). Pinto, 25,  who was a 32nd overall pick in the round 2 in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, has been integral to the Senators team who made the post-season last year and currently has 8 goals and 6 assists in 17 games this season. This is another piece off the board.
  1. BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors – As of November 12, the West Kelowna Warriors sit atop the entire BCHL standings with a stellar 13-1-2-0 record . In a league that expanded to include five Alberta teams last season, the Warriors’ early-season dominance (only one regulation loss through 16 games) makes them a clear contender for the Fred Page Cup. This shows that their inter-conference wins highlight the BCHL’s growing cross-provincial rivalry.
  1. Buffalo Woes – The Buffalo Sabres are still struggling as they are tied for the third-fewest points in the NHL and their playoff chances are very low (being 5-7-4) and falling to the Utah Mammoth 5 to 2. Injuries have also piled up as Jiri Kulich is out long-term with a blood clot, and captain Rasmus Dahlin is on personal leave, leaving the roster thin and inconsistent. There are trade rumors around Tage Thompson that add to the uncertainty, though management insists he’s staying put. With playoff hopes slipping, Buffalo faces growing pressure to make bold changes or risk another lost season.
  1. Prospect Watch – Erik Kald, a defenceman for the Sherwood Park Crusaders was named the 1st star of the week, as he led all players last week with six points in just two games, an impressive offensive surge from the blue line that’s rare for a defenseman. The 19-year-old Alberta native stands 6’3″ and 198 lbs, and his physicality and scoring touch are drawing attention. With 10 points in 16 games, this marks his first true breakout season after several quiet years in the USHL. Uncommitted and available as a UFA for any team or level, Kald’s emergence highlights how Alberta imports are elevating the league’s overall talent. If he sustains this late-season rise, he could earn invitations to professional training camps in the near future.
  1. NHL Global Series in Sweden  – The Global Series is set for November 14–16, featuring the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators in a special international showcase. The event will spotlight several European stars returning to play closer to home and aims to further grow the NHL’s global fan base, with Stockholm expected to deliver packed arenas and enthusiastic local support. They also plan to stop over in Milan to check in on the ice and rink that is being prepared for next years Olympics 2026.
